Admission Groups

There are two Groups (A and B) of admission under Ph.D. Program:

  1. Group A: Ph.D. Program – Regular Category who may receive a fellowship from the MHRD / CSIR/UGC or any other recognized funding agency.
  2. Group B: Ph.D. Program–No financial assistance or stipend by NIT Silchar will be provided for this GROUP.
Qualifications
  1. For Engineering: M.E./M.Tech. or equivalent with GATE / NET qualification in an appropriate area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (60% of marks). For SC/ST/PwD candidates, a minimum CPI of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (55% of marks) OR B.E./B.Tech. with an excellent academic record with valid GATE score and with a CPI of at least 8.0 (on 10 point scale) or equivalent (75% of marks).
  2. For Science: Students for admission into the Ph.D. Programs in Science departments must have a Master degree in the relevant discipline with a GATE / UGC / CSIR / NBHM / NET score for admission with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (60% of marks). For SC/ ST/ PwD candidates, a minimum CPI of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (55% of marks) with a GATE / UGC / CSIR / NBHM / NET score for admission.
  3. For Management Studies: Students for admission into the Ph.D. Programs in Management Studies departments must have a Master’s degree in Business Administration or Master’s degree in Engineering /Technology with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (60% of marks).
  4. For Humanities: Students for admission into the Ph.D. Programs in Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) Department must have a Master’s degree in any field with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (60 % of marks) or Master degree in other disciplines with a minimum CPI of 6.5.

Mandatory to study publication ethics, misconduct in PhD course work: UGC

The University Grants Commission has made it mandatory for PhD students to study two new courses in publication ethics and misconduct for pre-registration course work.

The decision was taken by the Commission in its recent meeting.

“The UGC in its recent meeting approved two credit courses for awareness about publication ethics and publication misconduct to be made compulsory for all PhD students for pre-registration course work,” a senior UGC official said.

The Commission has sent a letter to all university Vice Chancellors to ensure that the two credit courses are undertaken in the PhD course work from the upcoming academic session.

The PhD course work currently includes courses on research methodology which covers areas such as quantitative methods, computer applications and review of published research in the relevant field and field work.

Important to Note

The prescribed qualification should be from a recognized Indian University/Institute as a regular full-time course / Diploma course (including a sandwich diploma course with industrial training as part of the course; with no break) with minimum 50% marks (45% for SC and PwBD category candidates) in aggregate.

Candidates holding a qualification acquired through part-time/correspondence/distance education mode are not eligible.

Candidates possessing Diploma under recognized lateral entry scheme (Class-XII (Sc.)/ ITI admitted in 2nd year of Diploma course) shall also be considered the eligible subject to meeting the prescribed percentage of marks on the basis of aggregate of 4 semesters in the diploma course.

Qualification of MSc (Chemistry) shall not be considered a disqualification for post code 101. However, the percentage requirement shall be applied on graduation level exam (BSc-PCM) only.

Candidates possessing higher professional qualifications such as Engineering Graduates/MBA/MCA/ CA/CS/ICWA/LLB or those claiming possession of a Qualification equivalent to the Qualification prescribed shall not be considered for any of the above posts.

A candidate is allowed to apply for only one discipline. In case of receipt of more than one application for more than one discipline, all the applications will be rejected.

Qualification for the purpose of this clause would mean the qualification based on which candidature is offered or considered claimed by a candidate. Prescribed qualification shall be strictly adhered to.

The criteria for the full-time regular course shall not be insisted upon in case of Ex-Servicemen, provided they possess a requisite equivalent qualification that has been acquired during the service period and is recognized by AICTE/MHRD and GoI and have secured the prescribed minimum percentage of marks.

1. Research Associate

The SKBET centre is looking for a research associate to work on probiotics research area at IIT Bhubaneswar. The position will be offered initially for a period of one year with the possibility of renewal thereafter based on the review of performance.

  • No. of Vacancies: 01
  • Minimum Qualification: PhD with first class or equivalent in life sciences with a consistently very good academic record throughout and evidence of ability to pursue independent high-quality research.
  • Experience:
    • The candidate must have published at least 2 research articles in a peer-reviewed high-quality journal(s) as a lead author on probiotics research. Candidates with prior experience in cell culture and mouse handling will be given priority.
    • The candidate should be able to work in coordination with other team members. The candidate should have experience in scientific writings and grant writings. Experience in analytical instrumentation and data analysis is expected but not mandatory.
  • Salary: 47000/- + HRA
2. Project Assistant

The SKBET centre is looking for a project assistant to work on probiotics research area at IIT Bhubaneswar. The position will be offered initially for a period of one year with the possibility of renewal thereafter based on the review of performance.

  • Experience:
    • The candidate should have working experience in microbiology. Experience in cell culture techniques and molecular biology techniques will be given preference. Prior experience in the probiotics research will be preferred.
    • The candidate should be able to work in coordination with other team members. Experience in analytical instrumentation and data analysis is expected but not mandatory. The candidate should have experience in scientific writing.
  • Salary: Rupees 31000/- + HRA (With NET/GATE) and 25000/- + HRA (W/o NET/GATE)

CSIR invites applications for Raman Research Fellowship 2020-21. The Fellowship is granted to the CSIR Scientists for carrying out research in the emerging/ high priority areas in reputed foreign institutions/ R&D Centres of Excellence to enhance their R&D skills/ capability. The Fellowship is tenable abroad at CSIR cost.

Eligibility

Regular Scientists of CSIR with high academic qualifications (Postgraduate in Engineering and PhD in Natural Science / Technology/ Engineering) and research experience, presently working in high priority areas, (FTT / Mission mode projects / NIMITLI projects / major programmes of Institute) who have completed a minimum 5 years of service in CSIR on the last date for receipt of the applications.

The applicant must have made a commendable contribution to research/innovation in the proposed area, which should be of international level. Fellowship should not be sought for training or to carry out tests, etc. using facilities in the host institute. The RRF must be sought to further enhance the skills/capability and fill in technological gaps. The candidate should not be more than 45 years of age as on February 15, 2020.

Candidates must have to fulfil the following eligibility guidelines to apply for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) certificate West Bengal.

Enquiry and Verification Process

After submitting the EWS Application Form, the authority shall ask the applicant to appear, on a suitable date within two weeks from the date of receipt of the application, hearing and submission of proofs for verification of family income and subcaste in the manner it is done for issuance of Caste Certificate, before the following authorities :
